Why a Fair Use Policy?
At Webosa, many customers share the same powerful servers. That is what keeps our hosting affordable and fast. To safeguard that speed and stability for everyone, we ask you to use our services as they are intended: for normal, fair use by an ordinary website, webshop or e-mail environment.
This Fair Use Policy explains what we mean by that. It is not a list of hard limits intended to restrict you, but an agreement that prevents one customer's usage from coming at the expense of everyone else on the same server.
What do we consider reasonable use?
By reasonable use we mean use that fits the package you have purchased and a normal website or webshop of comparable size. The storage, the data traffic and the processing power are intended for running your site and e-mail, not for purposes that place a structurally heavy load on the server.
The vast majority of customers will never come up against the limits of this policy. If you notice that your site is growing and needs more, we are happy to think along with you about a suitable package or a Managed VPS.
When is use no longer reasonable?
We speak of unreasonable or excessive use when an account places such a heavy load on the shared server that other customers experience inconvenience as a result. Examples include:
- structurally consuming a disproportionately large share of the server's CPU, memory or disk usage;
- using your hosting as storage or backup space for files that are not part of your website (such as a private media archive or download platform);
- a very large number of small files (inodes) that unnecessarily slows down backups and maintenance;
- poorly optimised or faulty scripts, cron jobs or plug-ins that overload the server;
- sending large quantities of e-mail in a short period of time, or using e-mail for spam or bulk mailings.
What do we do in the event of excessive use?
We always talk to you first. If your account's usage gets out of line, we contact you and look at a solution together, for example optimising your website or switching to a more spacious package or a Managed VPS.
Only in exceptional cases, for example when the stability of the server is in acute danger, may we temporarily take measures to limit the disruption. We do so as precisely as possible and of course inform you about it.
E-mail and sending limits
To counter misuse and spam, reasonable limits apply to the number of e-mails you send per hour or per day. These limits are generous enough for normal business use. If you structurally need more for a newsletter or mailing, please use a specialised mailing service; that is better both for the deliverability of your e-mail and for the reputation of the server.
Backups
We make daily backups as an extra safety net. These backups are a service, not a replacement for your own responsibility to secure important data. Do not use your hosting as the primary storage location for backups of devices or other services.
